For a long time now, I have had dreams and nightmares of black ooze. I have tried to embrace it… somewhat to address the visions and somewhat because, well… it is a neat vision. Perhaps it is some Jungian bit that is easily explainable, or at least a common dream. Either way, I have worked it into my comic The Surplus Bio-Freaks, into my ink work, and, heck, this site, “Swarling Black Mable,” is titled after my pet name for the ooze. I might have figured out my fascination.
Somehow I managed to stumble on to http://www.bluthfamily.com, a site with quotes from the show “Arrested Development”.
Last year March, I participated in the F1 Overnight web challenge, a 24 hour+ programming comepetition to benefit Minnesota non-profits hosted by Sierra Bravo. My team had the pleasure of working with REDA (Riverview Economic Development Association). It was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to doing it again this year. [singlepic=90,320,240,,right] I know this comes a week or so too late, but I figure I better get a recap up of Halloween since it very well could have been one of the best ever.
Last night before bed, I conducted in my not-unusual practice of ODing on Wikipedia. I don’t know where I started nor where I ended, but somewhere in between, I got on to reading about the Old Testament of the Bible. I am in no way shape or form a biblical scholar, nor do I aim to be, but I do sometimes think about the historical context to things… sometimes of which is the bible. I didn’t read the Davinci Code, but around the time of all the hubub regarding it, as well as the references in HBO’s Carnivale series, I got somewhat interested in Gnostic texts – specifically why these texts were not part of the bible, yet others were. Additionally, why do Islam, Judaeism, and Christianity essentially share the same old Testements, but only “essentially” (i.e. some differences and texts left out or included). To be fair, I have not given this much thought outside of “huh, that is kinda weird” and then go back to doing whatever I was doing.
I picked up a copy of Vita.MN today to see an ad for Crypticon Minneapolis running Novemeber 14th – 16th. I am not a convention kiddo, but afte Toni and I were set on going to CONvergence and then couldn’t at the last minute due to the 4th O’ July holiday, I sorta have an inikling to go. I think I subconciously added it to my list of things to do before I die. So… anyone want to go see the guy that played the bunny in Donny Darko, a couple incarnations of Jason, the master of disguise Doug Jones (fish guy in Hellboy, Pan, Silver Surfer, etc), or just some horror groupies?
Arika cut my hair last night and did a fricken awesome job. If she quits teaching and goes back behind the chair, I highly reccomend you visit her. Anywho, I figured I would post a few preview pics.

I was looking up growing Ivy last night and ran across the word “Variegated” in the context of describing types of Ivy. I initially assumed this was a typo of “variated” as in “colors may vary”. But, my inquisitive mind decided it was worth googling. Wow, neato.
