I have been toying with the idea of starting a webcomic and need your status updates. Email me if interested!

Status Update Webcomic. You in? email me.

I have been toying with the idea of starting a webcomic and need your status updates. Email me if interested!

The Idea

Sites that allow status updates are all the rage anymore – most notably Twitter; but Facebook, MySpace, and many others have it as well. People just love to tell the world what is on their mind in a short little blurb. Heck, I use the twitters. My friends on Facebook and Twitter (the only such sites I frequent anymore) post a mix of interesting links and mundane “I’m going to lunch” type posts. However, more often than not, the context for the posts is lost and I find hilarity in the updates themselves. Sometimes, my mind wanders and some sort of Family Guyesque cut away sketch plays out in my brain.

So this gave me the idea to do a web comic illustrating these goofy scenarios. I have wanted to do a web comic for a long time, but never had an idea that fit the short attention span best suited for web comics. However, I think this status update comic idea suits that perfectly… and YOU CAN HELP!

How You Can Help

So here is what I would need to start… I need permission from you to make use of your status updates for captions of the comics. Basically, I will pick out some that inspire some sort of comical scenario and illustrate a one panel comic. I’m tentatively thinking of publishing this three times per week. I promise I won’t poke fun at you personally and will link back to your profile should you wish.

I’m also thinking of perhaps having an exhibition of the comics in the future. It will encourage me to put a little bit extra effort into the artistic side. You’ll be invited

Imagine, that goofy status update you posted about that thing over there eventually turning into a comic for people to enjoy and perhaps part of an exhibition?!?!? Why would you not want to do it!

If you are interested in helping me get started, shoot me an email with the url to your status updates and I’ll check them out. I’ll get back to you shortly with any ideas I have. I’m hoping to launch within the next few months, but will start working on an initial collection of comics starting next week, so please email soon. Thanks!

After a little comedic back and forth yesterday at work starting with C.K.'s post about "Wolverine Being a Slut", I decided to go as Sabretooth from the Xmen.

After a little comedic back and forth yesterday at work starting with C.K.’s post about “Wolverine Being a Slut“, I decided to go as Sabretooth from the Xmen.

I was going to reprise the Wolverine role from last year in order to finally get my claws to retract (which didn’t quite work last year). I was also toying around with the idea of going as one of the Knights of Lil John with Joe and crew. The joke yesterday was about getting some action by virtue of being Wolverine. I joked that I was trying it again this year. However, my boss Trey, suggested that I would make a better Sabretooth. Bam.

So I pondered it a bit yesterday and think I might do some variation of the Origins movie Sabretooth since I don’t want to go blond for it nor am I shaped like a giant muscled icecream cone in spandex. I might bust out some faux fur or perhaps do some commando style Team X costume. Eitherway, I am going to start growing my side burns again. Rocktacular. Hopefully, I don’t have anything I need to look “nice” for any time soon. haha.

Stay tuned.

"How much did Arnold Schwarzenegger weigh in his prime." I pondered this tonight at the gym after weighing myself. I don't get too concerned with weight since I don't feel like I have a lot of fat to lose and muscle weighs more than fat. However, I do worry about the long term of lugging lots of weight around on my heart. I am in no way shape or form "ripped" and have a bit of a gut I wouldn't mind loosing.

“How much did Arnold Schwarzenegger weigh in his prime.” I pondered this tonight at the gym after weighing myself. I don’t get too concerned with weight since I don’t feel like I have a lot of fat to lose and muscle weighs more than fat. However, I do worry about the long term of lugging lots of weight around on my heart. I am in no way shape or form “ripped” and have a bit of a gut I wouldn’t mind loosing.

I worked out a bit in college, but didn’t do much for a few years until last summer when I joined Anytime Fitness to get back in shape like I was before college (it wasn’t that long ago – it IS doable). Since joining the gym, I have consistently weighed 230lbs. Before joining the gym, I was consistently 215lbs for years starting in mid college. Now, I am trying to do more reps versus just lift a ton of weight so I can get lean and not huge. To some extent it seems to be working since I am getting definition and I definitely don’t feel huge.

So what is up with weighing so much? I always think of those UFC fighters who are my height and ripped but only weigh 180lbs. Granted, I am somewhat big framed and weighed 180lbs in middle school and was pretty lean.

Anywho, I came home and found this post that suggested that Arnold was 240 lbs at his prime and we are supposedly (read the article) the same height. So yeah, that just seems weird. For all that muscle, he was only 10lbs heavier than I am now. Lame. Anyone got a good explaination? Should I be concerned with my weight (fat or otherwise) in regard to my heart? I don’t really want a triple bypass at 50 years old. At least that is the goal. I suppose not eating complete crap would help too. der….

My old buddy Jin and I have been planning on catching the new Wolverine flick together for a long time. I know it was leaked to unflattering reviews, but I really don't care.

Just a quick rant…

My old buddy Jin and I have been planning on catching the new Wolverine flick together for a long time. I know it was leaked to unflattering reviews, but I really don’t care.

He is coming from St. Cloud and I am coming from Minneapolis. So we were thinking it might be cool to try to hit the IMAX in St. Michael. But thus far, the ticket sites were not showing anything for IMAX.

So i decided to google it. The first result was Comic Book Movie Forums / X-Men Movies / Will Wolverine be in Imax. Someone, like me, posed the question, “Will Wolverine be in Imax?” to which all the replies are some form of “who cares. That movie sucks” or “your mom is a slut”. Neat.

Now, I am fine with the Internet being full of crap like this, but I wish google had a way to filter it out. Yes, this matched my search description, but there was no real valuable information there. I’m sure through stumble upon or some hip crazy cool firefox extension, you can rank results. But, god damn google, isn’t the Skynet type AI you are running on smart enough to give me legitimate answers versus the ramblings of dipshit internet trolls?

End rant.

400-year-old mummified cat found in walls of cottage - Telegraph.

400-year-old mummified cat found in walls of cottage – Telegraph.

I found this today and thought it was pretty awesome. 500 years ago people across Europe buried cats in their walls to ward off spirts and one was recently found while renovating a cottage. I find this interesting because I sometimes like to think about the history of things and the people that have interacted with them over their lifetime.

I was apparently interested in this as a child, even if unconsciously, as I would write little notes and slip them behind the base boards thinking that someday some other kid such as myself might look behind them and get the note.

I guess I still do this to some extent. I have doodled on the back side of sheetrock in the unfinished portion of the basement. I wonder if the next person to own my home will renovate and think doodles are funny or just stupid. Eitherway, I have no plans on burrying Josh’s cat in the wall.

ha.

Growing up in rural Wisconsin, Maple Syrup was a big business, that I seldom thought of. Even in highschool, a few friends Jeremy and Mike started their own syrup business that sounds like is still going. They built themselves a “sappin’ shack” that I never personally partied in but often romanticized the tales of debauchery that occured there. Aww Wisconsin, how wonderful ye be. Now that I am rooted in Minnesota, the memories of driving past a forest of trees with buckets hanging from them are mostly just that – memories.

However, over the weekend, some kids around my age stopped by the house and asked if they could tap the tree in yard. I didn’t even know it was a maple. They were part of a group in Minnepolis that started to tap trees in the Seward/Powderhorn neighborhood. I often wondered what the skinny was. I guess they are having a pancake supper after sap season is over. That sounds like a really cool way to get the neighborhood together, especially the “Minnesota Nice” type neighbors who you hardly ever talk to.

On the way to the coffeeshop today, I snapped some pictures, including the one in my front yard. Sweet.

I graduated from the U in ’06. People have always complained that a disproportionate amount of money goes to the research side of the University of Minnesota. While I am definitely a fan of checks and balances, I think everyone can stand back for a second and praise this news from yesterday:

From the post on BBC:

The discovery, by the University of Minnesota, raises hopes of a similar microbicidal treatment to block HIV transmission in humans. … GML is a naturally occurring compound widely used as an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agent in food and cosmetics. Crucially, it is also cheap, and is likely to protect against other sexually transmitted infections too.

The next step is human testing, and hopefully after that, a dramatic drop in immune system related diseases. Way to go Gophers!

I know I probably say this a lot, but I have some new motivation for this whole blogging thing. I think I am going to get a wee bit more serious about it. I have cleaned up a lot of stressors in my life and want to start dedicating more time into things I actually enjoy. I will probably write on these topics more later.

However, in the mean time, I am doing some housecleaning. I moved my blog to a WordPress MU install so it is easier to update. Please be patient while I get things updated. I am hoping this will be the last time I jerk things around on here. Score. For your patience, you get a picture of a velociraptor being hugged by Jesus.
