Anxiously Waiting…

I have to go meet with the surgeon today about Taily. I’m a bit anxious about that. Aside from that, I am anxious over the actual surgery, which I thought was originally today. I really am not looking forward to being on antibiotics for another few weeks. I don’t think they are working. I have noticed my normally clear completion is starting to get pimply. Assuming antibiotics should counteract that, I wonder if my body is responding poorly to being on antibiotics for the last 30 days… Blar. I just want this over with. I want to thank all my friends who have been supportive and cool about all this. You guys rock.

Poll : What are 7 characteristics of humankind

What are 7 adjectives that you would use to describe homo sapiens that, for the most part, distinguish us from other animals? I’d like come up with 7 distinct characteristics and then break that into degrees. So something like “compassionate” and “hateful” are different degrees of some single characteristic… perhaps “the ability to care” or something like that. I hope all you anthropology and psych majors can help me out here!

Quote of the Day

I think this has been the story of my life the last year. As I have stated before, the doc said it was highly likely that Taily has cause a lot of my illness lately. Meanwhile, in spite of the growth of Adamantine Arts and the increasing awesomeness of my job, I have been more demotivated than ever.  This has changed in the last month a bit as I have been approaching surgery and our mentoring program has been starting. Some wonderful people in my life have helped too. One of which,  Sarah, sorta suggested that I try to sabotage various aspects of my life including the organization. An example was getting overwhelmed by things a few months ago and wanting to cancel or scale back the Stevens Creative mentoring program. Yeah. I can see that.

Gay, Illegal, and Carless….

I found this funny. The issue of gay and illegal hits close to home. Although, I am not sure about the carless part.

Synesthesia as a basis for metaphor and art?

Synesthesia as a basis for metaphor and art?

Matrix masters podcast 118 features an hour lecture with Vilayanur S. Ramachandran MD, PhD, a professor of Neurosciences at UC SanDiago. He focuses half of the talk on one my personal favorite fringe topics, synesthesia and the other on art. He essentially gives a scientific explanation for humans’ desire for visual art and also sticks it to Western Art History. Installments like this are one of the reasons I love Matrix Masters! Give it a hear. Vilayanur is quite engaging as well as humorous and there isn’t a lot of scientific jargon to turn off the less scientifically inclined.

Peeps You Should (maybe) Know of the Day : Uri Geller

I’m starting a segment called – peeps you should (maybe) know of the day. There are a lot of people if have heard names of stumbled upon on Wikipedia that seem interesting in my mind.

Have a monday

In an effort to be less of a negative Nancy, I would just like to point out that today is a great day. While the weekend was sprinkled with some White Russians ala Big Lebowski, seeing the Frida show at the Walker, and spending some time meeting new people, I also had to hear some things I didn’t want to hear and deal with some things I didn’t want to deal with. However, today I woke up feeling spiritually refreshed. I had my annual review (which went great). I have things mostly planned for this weeks mentoring sessions. …And I get to hang out with my buddy Dave tonite and maybe finish his mural. I also listened to some Christmas tunes over the course of the day on YouTube as to maybe think up some ideas for the Christmas album Jon and I are going to try to do. Yup. Booya.

Japanese Wax Gameshow…

This is just more proof that the Japanese a both awesome and weird as shit. The game is reminiscent of something you would do on the play ground as a kid… but with wax. You do some sort of paper, rock, scissors type game and the looser has a split second to get his umbrella up before the winner can dowse him in fast setting wax. Damn.

Escape From St. Paul

After much hullabaloo, the Compas Community Arts grant is in. Now it is just in the hands of God and/or at the mercy of the Compas grant staff. The thing was a huge ordeal that brought out some of the worst in Sarah and me. Somehow, we are still friends through it all. Woooord.

Charlie Rose vs. Patreaus

Watched this while biking last night. This is probably the best explanation of what is going on in Iraq. I wish Bush would talk as much. hmm.
