The other night while riding bike I was watching some more Charlie Rose vids. This one was vastly interesting.

An older customer says to the barista today : “That is the first thing I am going to ask when I meet St. Peter at the gates – ‘Where’s the coffee, and none of the decaf shit. I want the real stuff’. Then the next question is ‘Where is the smoking room?’. If they don’t have one, I’ll go join my mother’s casket in limbo because I’m sure they got one”.

Firstly, it was the start of the 2007-2008 PPL Youth Mentoring program with PPL (project for pride in living). Jayme, Carolyn, and I took the kids to visit the studio of local contemporary artist Stephan Capiz and the Northrup King Building in NE Minneapolis. We had a great time and the kids really enjoyed it. The session started off with Stephan talking a little about himself and his work. The kids all had a chance to ask questions including how Stephan starts his paintings and how they can start theirs. All the kids then got to pick their favorite artwork in the studio and talk about why the liked it. In the end, the kids had a chance to make their own artwork using some of the ideas they had learned. The sessions was really cool because the kids were able to meet a real professional artist and learn how he works. Stephen was very inspiring and fun to listen to. All in all, I think it was a great way to kick things off for this year’s mentoring program!

Through wikipedia, I was enlightened on the movie industry term Alan Smithee. I’ll let you read for yourself. It appears this chap has made a lot of movies.

I think this is amazing. I want to see Ron Paul get elected. Even if he isn’t the “best” candidate, maybe we, as a nation, need to re-think the criteria upon which we judge our great leaders.

I spent most of the day yesterday prepping the images for the 2008 Adamantine Arts fund raiser calendar. I ended up staying up until 4am or so getting the actual calendar ready. Meanwhile, Jon and I worked feverishly on the website side to get all the store bits working for the site. I’m pretty damn excited! Artists include Scott Stulen, Matt Wells, Joe Tower, Charles Denton, Anya Dikareva, moi and more… with lovely cover art by Sarah Jordet.

I’m still no Mac expert. As such, I don’t feel comfortable reinstalling OS X on my year old macbook pro even though it is starting to get slow and clogged. The “Genius” at the apple store swore there are no “Temp Files” because Mac is too cool for that. I seriously doubt that. He insisted that I must have lots of music and movies I have downloaded to cause the slowness. This isn’t the case as it is my work laptop and in the era of Big Brother and the RIAA, I don’t want some song that was accidentally mislabled as “creative commons” to get me into some lawsuit. Blar.

For Halloween this year, I did the scary skull face thing again. I figure it was pretty cool last year so “why fix it if it ain’t broken?” Another factor is that Halloween totally stumbled upon me without much notice. Last time I looked it was my birthday. I blink, and now it is already November. Yarg. Anyway, here are some pics.
